Baby update: Two months

Filed under: Family, Personal — llcall @ 11:28 am

I thought I better mention this milestone, you know, before she passes it on Tuesday and becomes a whopping three month old.  It’s a little tardy because this last week she decided that she only wants to nap while being held.  So while her night-time schedule is still a dream (usually 10 hours a night since she was about 5 weeks old), I am getting very little time during the days.  It’s really cramping my blogging style.  Sheesh.

At two weeks, I mentioned that she was a terrifically good baby that had never spit up on me.  Well, this is . . . still true!  Neal’s gotten it a couple times, but none for me.  [Except, wouldn't you know, I wrote this on Sunday night and yesterday she did spit up on me for the first time!] Course what she lacks in spit up, she makes up for in drooling.

So first her stats from her doctor’s appointment:

10 pounds, 15 ounces (up from 7 pounds, 13 ounces at birth)

23.75 inches (20 inches at birth) — a funny thing about her length: she is longer than she looks.  A friend whose baby is 3 days younger than Addison came over and we were talking about how much longer her baby looked, with her long legs and arms.  Addison literally looked like a short, stubby, fat babe compared to her little girl.  Come to find out, Addison is actually longer than she is; we think her length must be in her torso with kind of squatty legs.  We think this because one relative, to remain nameless because I wouldn’t want him or her to think I was offended, asked me after her two-month check-up, “So, did the doctor say anything about thinking she would be really short when she grew up?”  Me: No.  “Oh, I was just wondering since, you know, her legs are sooo short.”  Classic.

She is a pretty average and proportionate baby, around the 40th percentiles in height, weight, and head circumference.

Likes:

  1. Smiling at herself in the mirror — of course, she may think that she is actually making friends with a different baby altogether
  2. People, people, and more people — this is most distressing to my people-phobic Neal
  3. Ponies — she is always saying to me, “I want a pony.  Give me a pony, you mean old witch.”  Although, oddly, she seems to only find her voice when Neal is holding her

Dislikes:

  1. Kidney beans — she is a bit of a maniac when I eat these
  2. When I say, “You’re crying for no  reason” — especially  in a sing-songy voice

Firsts:

  1. Laughs — in one of these aforementioned mirror-smiling sessions, Neal was having her box with herself and she LOVED it
  2. Calling her mom a “mean old witch” — see #3 above

I know I should put in a whole slew of pictures, but I haven’t had a chance to download any really recent ones.  So I’ll demonstrate one of her best tricks, holding on TIGHT:

Grandpa Call's neck folds = awesome for grasping

Baby wants chapstick

. . . and writing implements

. . . and Daddy's fingers

  1. She can manage “mean old witch” but not “Happy Mother’s Day?” Go figure!

  3. Ponies. LOL. Too bad Neal is people-phobic. We people are missing out!

  4. Ah, short vs tall. As one short fella shrugged, “So what, my feet touch the ground.”

Classy trick for any female: nude heels–makes the leg-line appear much longer.

A well-known fact: after coming home with a perfect newborn, toddlers seem quite misshapen with their lanky limbs. Somehow we still seem to tolerate and love them. They were newborns once, too.

Variation and diversity paint the world fascinating, wild, and beautiful. Would we want people less so? NO!
