Baby update: Six months

Filed under: Family, Personal — llcall @ 10:00 pm

Stats:

15 pounds, 13 ounces (she was 14 pounds at 4 months)

24.75 inches (once again, she only grew half an inch in 2 months — when we told my brother that his little Evie [two months younger] had passed Addison in length, he said, “What are you raising, a bowling ball?!”  Yes, indeed.)

Our pediatrician doesn’t care much about percentiles; we get the feeling that he’s old enough and has seen enough babies that he can just tell if a baby is thriving, and he’s not interested in comparisons.  Still, we looked up a growth chart online and figured that she’s roughly 50th  percentile for weight and 10th percentile for height.

Likes:

  1. Water!! — mostly to drink, but she doesn’t mind bathing in it either, as long as she can drink it while she’s bathing in it
  2. Ice — the crystalline phase of water is almost as good as the liquid phase
  3. MOMMY — she still likes to be around other people, but she’s definitely entering the mommy-clingy phase
  4. Paper — somehow we forget as we get older that paper is the awesomest thing in the world
  5. Textures — she loves to run her fingers over or scratch her nails on everything, especially cloth and wallpaper

Dislikes:

  1. Solid food — more to come about that
  2. Being taken away from mommy
  3. Having paper taken away — you’re probably getting the picture, she DOES NOT like things being taken away from her

Firsts:

  1. Mobility — she goes from sitting to crawling position (but only takes a step or two) to rolling over so fast it’s a bit alarming [whole new can of worms, almost open]
  2. Doing push-ups/planks — I spent 20 minutes yesterday trying to get a picture of this (she’s like a watched pot that never boils), but Kjell can vouch for it; this girl is going to surpass me in strength around the 18-month mark
  3. Pulling out wads of my hair in 2 seconds flat — it may be time for another super short ‘do for me

Neal informed me that he didn’t think last Friday’s post did justice to the cuteness of our baby girl.  To that I reply:

  1. Oh those arm rolls kill me! And that smile is so happy :D Anyone could tell she is most definitely thriving

  2. When I read Neal’s comment, I thought, yes it did, then I saw the picture and was like, stunned by her cuteness!

It’s interesting to read her likes and dislikes—so similar to Katie’s at that age. Fun to remember!

  3. So cute. And so like Maddoc. He didn’t grow at all from 4 months to 6 months. But he was already 27 inches at 4 months, so it’s not too terrible. And the solid food thing is going miserably right now. At this point, the only way I can get a spoon into his mouth is to pry his jaws open, and by that time, the tiny amount of food on the spoon ends up on his face. I’m stuck between giving up and putting him on formula, except that he still won’t drink out of a bottle, so really, I’m just stuck nursing for the next forever years of my life. Let me know how things go with Addison and if you have any luck with her eating.

  4. Haha…Madeleine LOVES paper too. Loves to crumple it, tear it apart, and then put it in her mouth.

What a great picture. Happy baby. Beyond cute. =)

  5. She is such a cutie! Lincoln loves textures right now too, especially paper! He left my visiting teaching message crinkled, soggy, and holy. ;) Haha! Love it!
