Don’t call us, we’ll call you

May 16, 2010

Today I made a casserole with a baby strapped to me . . .

But before you applaud, I should mention that I made a teeny, tiny mistake.

These look remarkably similar, don’t you think:

1 tsp. salt

1 Tbsp. salt

Well, they don’t taste similar.

How fast do you think excessive amounts of sodium can jack up your cardiovascular system?  Should Neal and I just head to the hospital right now?

  1. Salt is yummy! I bet it tasted good at least 🙂

    • I wish it tasted good! It also had Italian bread crumbs, which are salty as is, so it was disgustingly salty!

      • Lindsay, I empathize! When my baby girl was Addison Sage’s age, I had dinner guests over and made baking powder biscuits to accompany the meal. One bite and oh, what a pucker! “Don’t eat it,” I begged, but they politely demurred. So I tried another bite of my handiwork–totally vile! Distracted by my baby (that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!), I had used baking soda instead of baking powder. Trust me, this is one of the times where non-experience wins. Too much salt = bleh!

  3. Oh Linds, I feel your pain. I once made the exact same mistake when making a batch of sugar cookies….they ended up being salt cookies instead, thanks to that darned Tbsp/Tsp confusion.

  4. If you do what I do, you’ll never make that mistake again. Just don’t put ANY salt in. If it calls for less than a TBS, I figure it isn’t really noticeable and people can always salt to taste anyway. Some people say the salt makes a difference, but no one seems to notice when I leave it out!
