Radio crush

Speaking of celebrity crushes . . .

This may or may not qualify but it has recently come to my attention that I have a special affinity for Kai Ryssdal, the host of Marketplace (on public radio). Is it the topic? I do love economic talk. Is it his unique name?  Admittedly cool. Is it the fact that he always sounds like he’s having a good time, even when he’s talking about the European debt crisis or Timothy Geithner? Probably.

All I know is I look forward to Wednesday nights in particular when I get to drive solo to Activity Days and listen to Kai “do the numbers.”

Have you ever had a voice-crush on a radio personality?

  1. Absolutely! Judy Waters on WLRH, our local NPR station, speaks with a smile that you can see in your mind. She sounds like she is ready to laugh or tell a joke even when announcing mundane details. What a gift to make people’s lips curve upward when you speak! (And she is just as warm and likable in person.)

    • She spells it Judy Watters. So sorry, my delightful friend!

      • It’s not every day you get to meet a beloved radio personality. Glad you met one of yours.

  2. Can’t help it, Lindsay. You asked. Fred Child’s voice is so enthusiastic and modulated–so non-boring and appealing, that I cannot help but listen to what he says about classical music. Besides, he was born in Huntsville, AL. I love him on NPR’s “Performance Today.” He’s contagious.

    • yes!! Casey Kasem was my voice crush growing up. I listened to the Top 40 countdown show American Top 40 every weekend.

      • I can totally hear Casey Kasem’s voice in my head still. So memorable.
